Project
As part of Aldi’s long-term goal to have 1,000 UK stores by 2022, a new distribution centre was required to provide the capacity and logistics to support this vision.
The 100-acre site at Sawley, Crosswords was built with 409,000 sq ft of ambient warehouse space and a 150,000 sq ft temperature-controlled area, with 15 loading bays dedicated to this space. To enable and enhance the day-to-day operations of the distribution centre it was essential that a robust IT infrastructure was installed across the site.
Challenges
Having already completed distribution centres on behalf of Aldi across the UK previously, Conceptunet were again chosen to install the Fibre and Copper infrastructure on this project.
A challenging 12-week completion date was set by the builder which meant Conceptunet had to accelerate the installation on site. This can become difficult when trying to manage the integration of over 1600 copper CAT7 links totalling over 8000m in length, along with 12km of fibre optic cable.
Outcome
By providing a highly skilled and reliable team, Conceptunet were able to meet the tight deadlines and ensure the work was carried out quickly, effectively and to the highest standards.
